As I have mentioned in "My Ferret Family" most of my ferrets live in their own ferret playroom and each group has around three hours a day out playing. After this site was launched some people asked if they could see what my ferrets accommodation was/is like so out came the camera and up goes a new page on the website.
THE FERRETS PLAYROOM
Harry cut the two centre panels out and replaced them with wire. He also made it so the left hand panel opens as a window so you can look in to check all is OK or pop a ferret back through the window to save them all "escaping" when you open the door.
Cage number one, a Super Pet Ferret Kingdom, are Yogi, Phoebe, Peggy-Sue, Miss.Hope, Daisy-Mae and Maisy. In the next cage, cage number two another Super Pet Ferret Kingdom are Sam, Choccie, Cookie and Arnie.
Then in cage number three, a Super Pet Tower with Tubes coming out of the roof, are Toby, Basil and Rolo. In cage number four, another Super Pet Ferret Kingdom, are Kellogg, Coco, Tinkerbell, Crackle,
Jessie and Suzie Q.
Finally in cage number five, another Super Pet cage with the tubes coming out of the roof, are Teddy, Rosie and Alfie Moon.
Each group has a minimum of two hours playtime out in the room a day. In the room itself they have tubes running around the edge of the room. A pasta dig box, a soft tissue bedding dig box and a ferret safe poly-peanut dig box. They also have a bay bath with water in for swimming/drinking. There is a blanket box which has a hole cut into the front of it which they use as a nesting box. A wicker cat bed with a sleeping area inside and on the top. There are three duvet filled bean bags and a faux fur blanket which they love playing in and even snuggling in to go to sleep. The top window itself remains open all year around as Harry constructed a wire covered frame which is attached to the window frame so even if one of them managed to climb up onto the window area they wouldn't be able to get out. There is also a remote controlled fan attached to the wall for the warmer days and the centre light in the room is a daylight lightbulb and is only ever switched on when I need to go in there in the dark.

Now to downstairs in our lounge:
In a large Tommy 102 T83 cage we have Reggie Kray, Mr. Bean and Snuffkin. In a standard tall Super Pet cage, which we have split it into two, in the top half we have Pippin and in the bottom half we have Fluppet,. We then have a long low level Ferplast cage for Jake, our paraplegic hob. and his girlfriend Pudding. Then finally we have another standard tall Super Pet cage with Buster in (one day he will find a ferret that he likes enough to be his soul mate!) Every ferret downstairs comes out twice a day. We turn the kitchen into a sealed playroom with lots of toys in, or if the weather is nice they go out into the ferret proofed garden or into the ferret court if there are no rescues in there playing.
All our ferrets live on human bedding, specially made ferret bedding or cat bedding which is changed once a week. In fact Harry is always telling me that the ferrets get their beds changed more regularly than we do!! We do not use litter trays, the bottom of each cage is covered with newspaper which is changed at least once a day. The floor in the ferret room is a specialist "wet room" floor which is very easy to keep clean. They have ferret biscuits and water available 24/7 as well as raw meat, usually chicken wings with the bone or rabbit six days a week and one day free of meat. The morning after their meat free day they have cat milk watered down with boiled water (once a month I add a couple of F/R organic eggs to it) which they relish and eat with gusto.
I hope this addition to the site is of interest and might even give some other ferret owners some new ideas which they can utilise for their ferret family.
